Customer Profile: Burgerville

BurgervilleBurgerville is the flagship restaurant chain owned by The Holland, Inc., located in Vancouver, Wash. Burgerville opened their first restaurant in 1961, and recently signed up to power all of their 39 locations and their headquarters with an impressive 100 percent Clean WindSM energy. This makes Burgerville a Platinum-level participant, the highest possible.

Why did Burgerville decide to purchase renewable power?

Burgerville believes that companies have a responsibility to adopt practices that are good for the environment and for the community. Beyond the notable environmental impact that implementing wind power at all of the Burgerville restaurants has, the company hopes it will also encourage others to do the same. The Holland partners with local growers and ranchers to deliver sustainable food products, and utilizing renewable power is another way the company can drive adoption of sustainable practices.

What are some of Burgerville’s other “green” initiatives?

Burgerville has created the position of chief cultural officer to concentrate on ensuring the company remains on track in pursuit of its environmental and community-oriented goals.

“My mission,” says Jack Graves, Burgerville CCO, “is to make sure that our sustainable and community initiatives are embodied by our people and continue to provide value, both to our company and to our community.”

Burgerville buys from local suppliers with sustainable products and crops that benefit the agricultural environment and associated communities, including using only all-natural, antibiotic-free beef. The company also sponsors local charities, turns its used canola oil into bio-diesel, and offers a health plan that covers even part-time employees.
