Customer Profile: Hillsboro Civic Center

Hillsboro Civic CenterThe Hillsboro Civic Center became a renewable energy leader by signing on as a Gold-level supporter of PGE’s Clean WindSM product for medium to large organizations. The Civic Center is a mixed-use project that includes a new City Hall, retail space, housing and a major public gathering place similar to Portland’s Pioneer Plaza.

Why did The Hillsboro Civic Center choose to support renewable power?

The Civic Center was built to the standards of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) program. The Clean Wind program served as a good way for the City of Hillsboro to help the center become LEED Gold Certified. It was also economically feasible and in line with the goals and objectives of Hillsboro’s citizens, mayor, City Council and Executive City Management Team.

What are some of Civic Center’s other “green” initiatives?

The Civic Center has undertaken energy conservation and recycling efforts, achieved tremendous indoor air quality, and uses interior day-lighting whenever possible. The building is modeled to consume 40 percent less energy than would be consumed by a new building built to Oregon’s already trendsetting Energy Building Code.
